We're Elijah and Makenna Stephenson.
Together since the seventh grade, married on our ten-year anniversary, and behind a camera for most of it.
Auburn is where it got serious. We spent college weekends on back roads in rural Alabama, photographing abandoned buildings and whatever else we found out there. After graduation we turned the cameras on people, first friends and family, then their friends, and now anyone who asks.
We're based in Huntsville and shoot all over it: downtown, Monte Sano, wildflower fields, backyards. If you have a place in mind, we'll meet you there.
Film
We love the grain and color of film. We also like working with it: there are only so many frames on a roll, and we spend more time deciding what to do with each one.
We shoot digital on a full-frame Sony too. Our Portrait and Extended sessions include both, so you'll get film and digital photos in the same gallery.
Sessions
Bring your ideas if you have them. If you don't, that's fine too. We'll help you figure out where to stand and what to do with your hands. You don't need to come knowing how to pose.

More than one family?
Book the 90 minutes. Grandparents, cousins, two families at once. We'll get everyone together, and a few of each family.
Want a full set of portraits for each household? Write to us and we'll add the time.
Good to know
- Booking
- A $100 card retainer holds your date. The price is the session plus $50 for the digital photographs. The rest is due by card when your gallery is ready. Sales tax is added then, on the digital photographs.
- When we shoot
- Saturday and Sunday, any time of day. Morning and evening light are the best.
- A new time
- If the day needs to change, we will find another one. The retainer stays with the session.
- Turnaround
- A few previews within 48 hours. Mini comes back in 1 to 2 weeks. Film takes 2 to 3, waiting on the lab. Rush is an add-on if you need it sooner.
- Outfit changes
- Changes count toward your session time, roughly ten minutes each. When we can, we pick spots with somewhere to change nearby.
- Film and digital
- Mini is digital. Film starts with Portrait. Portrait and Extended are shot on both, and both end up in your gallery. Film for the grain and the color it gives you, digital for the frames we would rather not leave to chance.
- Locations
- Mini uses a place from our shortlist. Portrait and Extended can be a place you pick, or one we suggest. A few gardens and historic spots charge a photo permit, and that gets passed along at cost.
- Travel
- Most places around Huntsville are just the session. If it's a long drive, we may write to you about a travel charge first.
